For your Physical, Mental, and Spiritual Health & Well-being - October 2005

If you find yourself between a rock and a hard spot...

Allen Memorial Hospital is here to help

Visiting or living in Moab, Utah is something special this time of year. Fall is, according to many who live here, absolutely the best time of year to be in Moab. The month of October has great weather, and so much to do something for everyone.

In addition to Arches National Park, the Colorado River, the LaSal Mountains, Canyonlands, Dead Horse Point and all the rest of the natural wonders of the area, in October we have:
• Seniors Golf Tournament, weekend of October 8th,
• 24 hours of Moab, weekend of October 15th,
• Allen Memorial Hospital’s 8th Annual Benefit Golf tournament on Friday, October 21st,
• Rumble in the Red Rocks AND the “Other Half” Marathon the weekend of October 22nd,
• Moab Halloween Bike Festival, weekend of October 28th.

Wow! What a calendar!

This Summer Allen Memorial Hospital was pleased to be a part of the Extreme Safety initiative, a program designed to educate all that make use of the area of ways to stay safe in the area. But, the need for Safety does not stop at Labor Day. Our Fall days can be hot, mosquitoes are in abundance from dawn to dusk (with the ever present and very real threat of West Nile Virus) and Moab is a very dry place (yes, Moab really is a desert). Therefore, before you head out to the links, the Rumble, or to take that ride be sure to double-check your safety list. Take water! Wear a hat! Take more water! Use sunscreen! Drink water! Use insect repellent! Don’t forget that water! And, if heading off the beaten path, tell someone where you are going, take something to eat and take a map!

At Allen Memorial Hospital, we want all our visitors and locals to be safe (did I mention water?). If, however, you do find yourself between a rock and a hard spot, we are here to help. A broken bone is an obvious problem, but dehydration can be even more serious. Our emergency room is always open and our Board Certified physicians are here to help in any emergency. We have a full compliment of medical care available including our full time Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Robert Kloepper just in case the rock wins the challenge.

So, enjoy your visit. Enjoy our restaurants and shops. And, enjoy our rocks with the peace of mind that should you need us, we’ll be here 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We hope you stay safe and come back to visit Moab again soon.

Allen Memorial Hospital is located at 719 West 400 North
and may be reached by phone at 435-259-7191.
