GALLERY  HAPPENINGS - October 2022
October at Gallery Moab
by Thea Nordling

The late August flood that damaged so many downtown businesses spared Gallery Moab, but it was definitely a close call! We fortunately were just above the high water mark, and our artist-owned and operated cooperative gallery is still open and welcoming art lovers. Rick Kinateder

Guest Artist Rick Kinateder will be in the spotlight during October. An architectural designer and illustrator by trade, he graduated from Brigham Young University in Art and Design, taught design and rendering at BYU and Utah Valley University, and established a well-respected architectural rendering, model and design firm in Utah Valley. Now in semi-retirement, he and his wife travel widely, visiting family and exploring the Intermountain west and Europe. Their adventures have inspired many fine cityscapes and landscapes.

Kinateder now devotes his artistic talents to his fine art and teaching watercolor and perspective workshops. His watercolor, gouache and oil landscapes show the strong sense of detail and accurate perspective and proportion carried over from his background in architectural design. He is especially fond of painting scenes from rural Utah, the red rock country, and the Yellowstone/Teton areas. He has produced award-winning paintings at plein air events and regional shows. His art will be at the gallery throughout October.

Featured Painting by Rick Kinateder (untitled)Gallery Artist Antonio Savarese has lived in the deep desert of the Southwest for over 35 years, using countless experiences to draw upon while deciding what imagery best describes his vision of the Southwest. In 2019, as Community Artist in the Parks, he painted pastel landscapes on-site at Arches and Canyonlands National Parks and Natural Bridges and Hovenweep National Monuments. Since then he has primarily been painting in oils. An energetic, prolific artist, he is always surprising us with something new in his subject matter and approach. His paintings feature the region’s deserts, canyons, and mesas, its flora, and the people and human-made features within it. Savarese claims he has yet to NOT find inspiration somewhere. He says, “If inspiration isn’t immediately in front of you here, simply look behind you, I dare say one can look in every direction and find something that sparks their imagination.” Oil by Antonio Savarese

Damian FaganWe are deeply saddened by the loss of Victoria Fugit, one of Gallery Moab’s founding members. Victoria was known for her sensitive pastel paintings of the wildlife and landscape she so dearly loved. We miss her kind, caring presence and will host a special event in her memory in December.
