Gallery HAPPENINGS December 2018

Gallery Moab
Nancye Culbreath

In December, Gallery Moab will feature some of Grand County High School’s budding artists under the direction of Christa Green. It should be an impressive show and we hope the community will come to our reception for them on December 8th from 6-8 pm. AND, don’t forget that Gallery Moab is a great place for holiday shopping! Along with reasonably priced paintings and prints we have a variety of other gift items including richly colored scarves, earthy ceramics, unique jewelry, hand-quilted bags, lustrous fused glass art, carved wooden spoons, and finely embellished gourds and ornaments.

Gallery Moab is pleased to introduce our newest member, painter Nancye Culbreath. For the past few years she has been devoted to painting the southern Utah region of Canyonlands, Glen Canyon and Lake Powell. Nancye’s paintings add a new landscape perspective to the gallery and we welcome her with her former business experience as a great asset to our coop

Nancye grew up in a military family living in different parts of the world. She drew at an early age and while living in the Washington D.C. area she came to love and ride horses which became the subject and focus of her art. She would illustrate images from stories she had read, fascinated with horses, cowboys and Indians of the old west.

In her 20’s Nancye left the bustle of the east coast and moved to Colorado Springs. What brought her to the state was a desire to live in an area “where open spaces were met with more open spaces.” She met her future husband, Greg, and they settled La Veta, a popular arts community near the Sangre de Christo and Spanish Peak Mountains. There she found art mentors, and was able to take workshops and instruction when and where she could from several professional artists.

Nancye rode horseback through the landscape and came to appreciate the colors of the Southwest and the intensely blue skies. She found a wealth to paint while at the same time raising three children. Nancye and her husband enjoyed over 30 years in La Veta before moving to Colorado Springs in 2007. With the children grown, a new adventure began. Nancye certified to become a custom framer which opened many “Art” related doors and introduced her to artists in and around the Colorado Springs area.

She sold her framing business in 2016, after almost a decade of success as an independent custom frame shop owner. A new chapter of her life has now begun, and Nancye and her husband have moved to the Monticello area. Currently they are building their home north of Monticello, overlooking the Abajo Mts. In September, she became a member of Gallery Moab.

Nancye has paintings in private collections and corporate offices throughout the United States and Canada. She welcomes commissions and can be contacted at edgefineart@gmail.com.

Gallery Moab is located at 87 North Main Street. We are open Daily from 10 am-6 pm and be sure to mention you read about Gallery Moab in Moab Happenings. Work by gallery artists can been seen at gallerymoab.com and on Facebook or call 435-355-0024.
