BUSINESS HAPPENINGS - November 2023

Cottages, Tent Sites, Fully Stocked Kitchen, More, at HTR Lodge and Cottages
By Sharon Sullivan

HTR Moab Lodge and Cottages offers a variety of lodging options. There are rental cottages with kitchenettes, rustic rooms that sleep several people, and a two-bedroom “lodge residence,” as well as tent sites. Additionally, in 2024, the property will offer 13 Glamping sites.

While the cottages each have their own cooking facilities, there’s also a large community kitchen stocked with pots and pans, and a refrigerator and freezer. There guests can mingle with other travelers, many of whom come from overseas.

The new cottages are decorated inside with artwork from Moab Made, a downtown Moab shop that sells the work of local artisans. Prints of some of the artwork are for sale in the front office shop.

“It was important for the owners to showcase local art,” said general manager Bren Collins.

Located at 1536 S. Mill Creek Road, the property is located just south of downtown Moab. The owners purchased the former ACT campground in 2021, and has kept some features, while replacing the RV hookup sites with new fully contained one bedroom-, two bedroom, and studio cottages. The new owners operate nine properties across the country.

They kept the affordable rustic lodge and bunk rooms – with nearby bathrooms and showers; plus, there’s the “Lodge Residence” with two queen-sized beds in one bedroom, and a third queen-sized bed in the main bedroom – perfect for families or large gatherings. The lodge comes with a full kitchen and bath, plus dining and living room areas.

There are also tent sites available with electrical hookups, and access to nearby modern bath facilities and the communal kitchen – which makes camping so much easier!

Other guest amenities include a shop in the front office which offers toiletries, laundry supplies, snacks, and gift merchandise for sale. There are four new washing machines on the premises, as well as four new dryers. Plus, there’s a clothesline (clothes dry quickly in Moab’s arid climate). Additionally, there are two electric vehicle charging stations on the property.

All accommodations are pet-friendly – however, pets are not allowed in the communal bath and kitchen areas.
A large portion of Moab Lodge and Cottages’ clientele are international, said Collins.

“It’s very fun; it’s been interesting,” she said. “Guests come from all over the world.”
