Chile Pepper Bike Shop Will Set You Up with Rental Bikes, Shuttles, & More
By Sharon Sullivan |
Chile Pepper Bike Shop rents out bikes of all types – including mountain, gravel, kids, and regular pedal townie bikes – whether you want to cruise the streets of Moab, or ride backcountry trails outside of town.
Located at 702 S. Main St., next to the Moab Brewery, the staff at Chile Pepper Bike Shop can help match area trails with riders’ abilities to help ensure a good experience, said shop owner Tracy Bentley. From the shop it’s just a 10-minute drive to Slickrock bike trail, and Sand Flats Recreation Area.
“We also have great maps produced by the Moab Trails Alliance,” she said.
Additionally, the shop offers bike tours through a partnership with Rim Tours, as well as shuttles to and from the trails via Coyote Shuttle.
If you’re looking to purchase a bike, the shop sells used bikes throughout the year as it replaces its spring and fall rental fleets.
“People can get a really good deal on a well-maintained bike,” Bentley said. “We try and flip bikes each season so there’s still a lot of life left in them. We rotate bikes often. It’s better for the bike and the customer.”
Customers can also special-order new bikes. The shop sells various bike parts and accessories.
Additionally, “We have an amazing selection of apparel for men, women and kids, plus cool logo merchandise like hats, gloves, and travel mugs,” Bentley said.
If you bring your own bike to town and something breaks while you’re out on the trail Chile Pepper will try and fix it quickly – the shop offers a full-service repair department. Meanwhile, a rental bike can save your vacation.
Chile Pepper bike mechanics offers bike maintenance classes three times a year – the clinics are held after hours and are promoted by the local chapter of International Mountain Biking Association.
There’s an espresso bar inside the shop – coffee drinks are made with fresh-roasted coffee beans from Fresh Moab Coffee, a local roaster in town.
Bentley began working in the bike industry after moving to Moab in 1999. She bought Chile Pepper Bike Shop after its previous owners decided to move and sell the business in 2006.
Chile Pepper Bike Shop is open seven days a week, March through November, from 8 a.m.-6 p.m., and December through February, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
