MOYO Moab Frozen Yogurt offers 15 different flavors of frozen yogurt – and many more sweet treats from which to choose. Located at 331 N. Main St., the shop also serves custard, gelato, gelati, Italian ice, milkshakes, smoothies, and pastries. Their ice-cream sandwiches are made with custard and cookies baked on the premises.
Gelato is a frozen dessert that originated in Italy. Made with a 3.25% milk and sugar, gelato generally has less fat than other frozen desserts. Gelati is made with layers of Italian water ice and custard.
If you prefer a nondairy option consider Italian ice; the shop rotates flavors of root-beer, mango, lemon, cherry, watermelon, cotton candy and horchata. MOYO also serves Pineapple Dole Whip, a flavor popular at Disneyland, said MOYO co-owner Rhondelle Pierce.
You can order a milkshake made with ice cream, or get a smoothie containing yogurt and fruits. The fruit medley smoothie includes mango, pineapple, blueberry, and strawberry. The tropical delight has pineapple, coconut flakes, and mango. Or, create your own flavor by choosing your own ingredients.
“We can make whatever you want,” Pierce said.
MOYO offers decadent-sounding cookies – lemon with white chocolate chunks and coconut, triple chocolate, chocolate chunk, Heath bar, and sugar cookies with peanut-butter frosting topped off with Reese Cup pieces.
Additionally, you’ll find four types of cheesecake – Big cheese Brule, Turtle with caramel and nuts, Brownie caramel, and Blueberry cobbler white chocolate. Or, consider cake – lemon-berry marzipan with custard layer filling and powdered sugar; or the chocolate fudgy wudgy. Quench your thirst with apple beer or any of a variety of flavored sparkling waters.
MOYO offers some indoor seating, with plenty of outdoor seating on back, front, and side patios. The back patio has misters for those hot days of summer.
Pierce and her husband Brian Pierce opened MOYO in April 2014. The couple grew up in Moab, and offer discounts to local residents. They also offer a “frequent flyer” deal where customers can receive an extra 5% off their purchase on top of their local discount.
MOYO is open 1-9 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and Sunday 3-9 p.m. As the summer season progresses the shop will remain open until 10 p.m. MOYO closes for the season in mid-November, and reopens mid-February, on President’s Day weekend.
“We go with what Moab is doing weather-wise,” Rhondelle Pierce said. “As people stay out longer we stay open longer.”
