The
Moab Adventure Center Western River Expeditions, has recently
been presented with a “Best of State” award in
the hospitality industry for 2005. Proudly displayed on the
front counter is a shiny gold plated, twenty-two pound bronze
statue. Striving for excellence has certainly paid off for
this company.
The Best of State Awards were created to recognize outstanding individuals,
organizations and businesses in Utah. Other nominees in the hospitality
industry included: Stein Erikson Lodge, Morris Murdock Travel, Grand America
Hotel, and Thanksgiving Point. Seeking companies that excel in their endeavors,
creative use of innovative approaches or methods, and companies that bring
the highest contribution to a better quality of life is the criteria used
for judging. “The Best of State Award is something to be proud of,
considering we were up against some of the top hospitality and tourism
companies in the state,” remarked Jamie Pearce, general manager of
the Moab Adventure Center (MAC).
When asked about the success of the MAC/Western River Expeditions, Jason
Taylor, Moab operations manager said, “There are many components
that come together in order to keep the MAC running successfully. We are
continually striving for excellence in customer service, and have gone
as far to offer 100% satisfaction guarantee on our adventures. But, our
alliances with other local businesses are what keep us running. We have
teamed up with some other outstanding tour operators and hotels to offer
a wide range of activities. It is in large part due to quality and professionalism
that our guests return.”
Western
River was established in 1961, their dedication to trip safety, integrity,
and experienced guides has surely helped the company gain a remarkable
reputation in Utah and Arizona. River trips in Desolation Canyon, on the
Green River, Colorado River trips near Moab, and Grand Canyon trips in
Arizona is where the company began. Like all good things that tend to grow,
this company is no exception.
With a much needed base for all the new adventures, and products they have
to offer, is where you will find the Moab Adventure Center. 225 South Main
is the place for visitors to come and sample all this incredible land has
to offer, and to gear up for many of the activities. River rafting is still
a big part of the company, but now they also offer, Hummer Tours, mountain
biking, hikes into Arches National Park, scenic flights, horseback rides
and Tom Car tours. And, if you are in need of outdoor clothing and accessories,
you can find a variety of products inside their store. Last, but not least,
is the newest addition to the company. Red Rock Outfitters, a mail order
catalogue and online store.
One
of the most popular adventures the MAC offers is the Slick Rock Safari.
The Safari is a two hour, guided Hummer tour that takes guest up on the
beautiful and thrilling ride of Hell’s Revenge. Experienced guides,
with a sense of adventure, make for an unforgettable ride. “For me,
it is fun to watch people react and experience something so different from
where they live”, commented Ken Coylar, one of the drivers. Bob Ball,
aka Crazy Bob, also agrees, “Right from the beginning it’s
different than anythingpeople have done before. It’s the scenery,
excitement and becoming aware of what the Hummer can do.”
If the Hummer tour is a bit adventurous for your taste, you can take a
float trip on the daily stretch of the Colorado, or horseback in Castle
Valley. Or, if you are seeking more adventure, the MAC staff may suggest
a repelling tour off the Morning Glory Bridge or a scenic flight over Canyonlands
National Park.
With or without the hospitality award, the Moab Adventure Center/Western
River Expeditions not only takes pride in the tours and items they have
to offer, but they enjoy every moment of it. If you have not taken the
time to visit, they invite you to come in their store at 225 South Main,
