Apr 25 Rice Cooking Class- Learn how to cook Chinese fried rice, Japanese sushi, and Lao sticky rice using traditional cooking tools and Western alternatives. We will make several dishes to enjoy and demonstrate how they can be easily adapted for the tools in your kitchen. Apr 27 Service Saturday at Arches- Show your love for Arches National Park by helping clean up litter or pull weeds at a popular parking lot or trailhead! All equipment will be provided and all ages and abilities welcome. Minors must be accompanied by an adult. Location and other details will be determined one week from the date of event.Each participant will receive a special thank-you item for volunteering time to care for the national park. 9am–10:30am. Apr 27 The Youth Garden Project's annual Plant Sale Fundraiser!
With over 4000 plant starts (peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, flowers, and more!) to choose from, you'll be sure to find everything you need to grow an amazing 2024 garden. All proceeds go towards YGP's youth and community programming. Breakfast treats, coffee, and YGP merch will also be available for purchase. 9am-1pm; 530 S 400 E. May 3 Moab Art Walk- Free, all-ages downtown celebration of artistry and community, takes place on the first Fridays of May, August, and November from 5-8 p.m. Locations exhibit new work every month, featuring local and regional artists exploring a variety of themes and mediums. Expect to encounter raffles, tasty food and drink, artist demonstrations, live music, and more as you stroll around town to each of the locations. Meet and mingle with artists and art enthusiasts, buy a piece of art, and leave feeling inspired to create! May 4–5 Moab Fondo Fest- TransRockies Moab Fondo Fest for an exhilarating weekend featuring two thrilling events—a 60 mile Gran Fondo on Saturday and a 60 mile Gravel Fondo on Sunday. Cyclists have the option to participate in either or both, promising an unforgettable experience against the breathtaking backdrop of Moab's iconic red rock scenery. May 4 Pine Needle Weaving- Moab Arts Class with visiting instructor, Janice Reich, to learn pine needle art! From a simple cabochon to a beautiful pine needle basket or wall hanging, in this class you will learn the basics of using pine needles, waxed linen, and beads to weave around a prepared stone to create a small basket or wall hanging. 10am–4 pm. May 8 Tie-Dye for Beginners: Low Water Immersion Dyeing- Moab Arts Class with Thomas Crumrine. Learn how to tie-dye using the low water immersion technique. With this method we don't have to wait for days to see your cool new t-shirt! We will have a small talk on the history of dyeing fabrics, materials used, and different dying and tying techniques. Afterwards, we will tie, dye, and washout a t-shirt that you can take home. You choose the style and colors! 5:30-8pm. Class cost is $35, all materials are provided, but feel free to bring your own shirt/tote/or other fabric to dye in addition to the T-Shirt. May 9 Moab Information Center Lecture Series: Waves of Incision Help Carve Canyonlands- The Colorado River has carved some of the most iconic canyons in the world. What causes a river to cut a canyon? Why does the river and canyon character change between Meander and Cataract Canyon through Canyonlands? Geology PhD candidate Natalie Tanski will discuss how salt tectonics, mass-wasting, and river incision over the recent geologic period has led to the development of the unique landscape of Canyonlands. 5pm at the MIC, 25 E Center St. Presented by Canyonlands Natural History Association and the Moab Museum. 

May 9–11 Raptors on the Rocks- Join the 4th annual Raptors on the Rocks event—a gathering of Raptor enthusiasts from all over the globe in Moab, Utah. Come and enjoy the trails, scenery and camaraderie with others who are equally passionate for our off road vehicle of choice!

May 11 Spring and Mother's Day Craft Fair- at the Moab Valley Inn, 10am to 5 pm.

May 11 Bollywood Dance- Moab Arts class with Annie Larson. Learn short high energy choreographies drawing from Indian style classical and folk dance, jazz, and belly dance. This is the dance style from the movies of India—upbeat, energetic, and so fun you can't stop smiling. Workshop will include stretching, skills practice, dance combinations, and short choreographies to infectious modern Indian dance music. 10:30am. Class cost is $20, no materials needed, though participants should bring water, wear comfortable clothing, and may wear fitness shoes or dance barefoot. Ages 14+. May 16 Moab Information Center Lecture Series: Founding Fathers: The Creation of Canyonlands National Park- The vision of Charlie Steen, Bates Wilson and Stewart Udall paved the way for the creation of Canyonlands National Park. Charlie Steen represents the Atomic Energy Commission who provided access to the White Rim Sandstone via the White Rim Road. Bates Wilson Represents the vision of having a National Park that would protect the confluence. Wilson wanted to protect a million acres of wild canyon country and generate a sustainable economy via tourism. Stewart Udall provided the political support needed in order to push the idea of a National Park through Congress. Join Park Ranger, Robert Anderson, as he discusses each of these men and their vision for Canyonlands National Park. 5pm at the MIC, 25 E Center St. Presented by Canyonlands Natural History Association and the Moab Museum.

May 18 Slick Rock Beer Festival- Presented by Salt Lake City Weekly and Proper Brewing Co. and Carlson. 

May 18–19 Willow Basket Weaving Moab Arts Class- with Kelly Moody. Spend two days learning to weave with Willow, a plant traditionally used for weaving across North America and Europe. We will learn some basic techniques and weave small to medium sized baskets that you will take home.We will take a field trip to see wild willow and learn how to tend your own weaving materials. Saturday 10am–4pm at Moab Arts. Sunday, 10–3pm, field trip, location TBD. Class cost is $190, materials provided. Preregistration is required. May 23 Moab Information Center Lecture Series: Light Pollution Effects on the Colorado Plateau- Southeastern Utah is home to some of the darkest skies in the country with some incredible nocturnal night life thriving under its stars. However, with urbanization and population growth there are threats on the horizon. Join Ranger Rhodes Smartt as we explore what makes the night skies of Canyonlands and Arches special, how we can continue to protect them, and what differences we can make at home to save our night skies for future generations. 5pm at the MIC, 25 E Center St. Presented by Canyonlands Natural History Association and the Moab Museum. 

May 23 Local history with Dave Vaughn: On Jack Bickers- Jack Bickers, a giant among local backcountry explorers, authored numerous guide books and articles on the Moab area backcountry, photographing and documenting its splendid vistas, hikes and jeeping challenges. Local historian Dave Vaughn will share photos detailing his many adventures exploring and documenting the area with Jack. Free at the Moab Library Branch at 7pm | 257 E. Y12SR-The yoga of 12-Step recovery
(Wednesdays at 5:15pm) Combining the practical tools of the 12-Step program with the ancient wisdom of yoga. Y12SR is a yoga practice followed by a brief group discussion based on the 12-steps. Open to everyone and anyone dealing with their own addictive behavior or affected by the addictive behavior of others. This is an open and inclusive group. All A’s are welcome.
